Year 4: Living things have life cycles (ACSSU072) Living things depend on each other and the environment to survive (ACSSU073)
Year 5: Living things have structural features and adaptations that help them to survive in their environment(ACSSU043)
You will need 2 PPTs for Science this term. One will be for your definitions and the other will contain your work.
TASK 1: Watch the Video
TASK 2:
Use Powerpoint to create a slideshow with the definitions of these words. (You will add more words as we move through the unit)
TASK 3: Biomes What are the 5 main types of Biomes in the World? Create a page in your slide show for each. What are their main features (plants/ animals/ climate etc)
Find more information about the types of Biomes here or in the following video.
Extension Activity: Choose a Biome to research further. Open a Minecraft Biome 'World' and create an informative pathway through the Biome, commenting on the plant life/ land features, climate and animals.
Life Cycles
All plants and animals have LIFE CYCLES.
A life cycle is a series of stages/changes an organism (living thing) goes through during its life.
Metamorphosis
Metamorphosis is a process some animals go through to become adults. It is a series of physical changes.
Insects, spiders and amphibians all go through Metamorphosis There are 2 types: Complete Metamorphosis and Incomplete Metamorphosis
An ADAPTATION is a special skill which helps an animal to SURVIVE and do everything it needs to do. Adaptations could be physical changes to the animals body or behavioural changes in how an individual animal or a society do things in their daily lives or physiological.
Behavioural Adaptations
Innate behaviors are ones the animal is born with. Learned behaviors are just that -- learned -- and animals will acquire them throughout life.
