LEARNING INTENTION:
My goal is to use modality to influence an audience.
SUCCESS CRITERIA
I will be successful when I can;
-identify High Modality words within texts,
-use High Modality words in a sentence to convince someone.
-use a low modality word in a counter argument.
Task 1:
LOW OR HIGH? Read these sentences. On your whiteboard write H for High Modality or L for Low Modality.
a) I might go swimming on the weekend.
b) Dad says he might take us to the beach one day.
c) We must leave before it gets too dark.
d) To improve your health, you must eat fruit and vegetables.
e) You must remember to bring your homework home.
TASK 2:
In your Literacy books, rewrite these Low Modality sentences using High Modality words.
a) I could go to football practice this afternoon.
b) I sometimes do my homework.
c) I might see you at school tomorrow.
d) It is possible that it may rain this afternoon.
